Busy Is Not the Same as Aligned

Guidance

After we sold the business, I expected to feel free.

In many ways I was.

But I also felt lost.

So I did what most founders do when they feel uncomfortable. I got busy.

More opportunities. More conversations. More ideas. More partnerships.

My calendar filled up again. From the outside, everything looked fine.

Inside, something was missing.

I was busy, but not fulfilled.

I was active, but not aligned.

It took me a long time to see it. I was using activity to avoid a harder question: what did I actually want to build next?

Clarity

Activity feels like progress. It keeps us moving and it keeps the hard questions quiet.

But activity and alignment are not the same thing. Alignment means the things you spend your time on are connected to who you are and where you want to go.

The shift for me came when I started noticing my energy. I felt most alive when I was helping other founders think through their challenges. That was the signal. Everything else was noise.

This is not only true after an exit. Many founders I meet are outwardly successful and internally stretched. Their calendar is full, but very little of it is theirs.

Growth

  1. Audit last week. Look at your calendar and mark each meeting: did it give you energy, or take it?

  2. Find the pattern. What do the high-energy moments have in common? Write it in one sentence.

  3. Cancel one thing. Remove one recurring commitment that drains you and does not move your goals.

Notice what gives you energy. It is telling you something.

Until next Monday,

Kuki
